Hamilton Jazzmaster Auto Chrono vs Khaki Chronograph: two automatic chronographs compared
Two automatic Hamilton chronographs from different eras and in different sizes. We compare them point by point using each piece’s details: case, dial, movement, condition and what comes with each.
Size and case
The Jazzmaster Auto Chrono, reference H32586541, has a stainless-steel case of approximately 42 mm without the crown, with a sapphire case back, a Hamilton-signed crown and a sapphire crystal.
The Khaki Chronograph, case reference B 0387, dates from around the 1990s and is noticeably more compact: approximately 38.3 mm without the crown and 41.3 mm with it. It has drilled lugs, round pushers, an original Hamilton-signed crown and a rotating steel bezel with a finely knurled edge.
Dial and legibility
The Jazzmaster has a blue sunburst dial with polished applied baton markers. Its three recessed registers show 30 minutes at 12, running seconds at 9 and 12 hours at 6, with a date window between 4 and 5 o’clock. The polished hands carry luminous inserts.
The Khaki has a cream dial with black Arabic numerals, gilt-tone hands and register surrounds — the hands with luminous inserts — three recessed registers, a date at 3 o’clock and a printed tachymeter scale around the edge.
Movement
The Jazzmaster uses Hamilton’s H-21 automatic chronograph calibre, with 25 jewels and approximately 60 hours of power reserve, visible through the sapphire case back with its signed rotor.
The Khaki houses a Swiss automatic chronograph whose calibre has not been verified, as the case has not been opened. On both watches the chronograph start, stop and reset have been tested, along with the date and time-setting.
Condition and what’s included
The Jazzmaster is in good pre-owned condition and fully functional, with light scratches on the case. Its original brown leather strap is heavily worn and should be replaced for regular wear; the signed folding clasp works well and can be moved to a new strap. It comes with its presentation box and an international warranty card that is blank and not dealer-stamped. The 10 ATM water resistance has not been recently tested.
The Khaki is in very good condition. Under macro photography the dial shows small age-related spots and patina, with light oxidation on parts of the hands and registers. The leather strap and buckle are not original. It comes with a Hamilton presentation box, hang tag and an undated instruction and warranty booklet. Water resistance has not been tested.
