Promaster Windsurfing “Int’l Code Flags”
Citizen Promaster Windsurfing, reference D28B-S63707, from the second half of the 1990s. Stainless steel 41 mm case with asymmetric integrated guards, quartz digital module D28B, water resistance marked 10 BAR. Citizen launched the Promaster line in 1989 as its professional-tool division, splitting it into Land, Marine and Sky families. This reference belongs to the Marine branch built for dinghy and windsurf racing: the printed chapter ring carries the International Code of Signals flags used in yacht race starting sequences — M, P, X, S, N, C, AP and the First Substitute — while the colour-graduated bar graph across the top of the display drives the countdown to the start gun. The asymmetric case with its faceted guards and exposed screws is pure mid-90s Citizen industrial design, a period that collectors of Japanese digital tool watches now track closely. - Movement: Quartz digital, Citizen module D28B - Case: Stainless steel, 41 mm (44.5 mm across the protective guards) - Display: Black LCD dial with International Code Flags chapter ring, colour countdown bar graph - Crystal: Mineral - Strap: Black woven canvas with steel buckle - Functions: Time (12/24h), calendar, alarm, chronograph to 1/10 sec with split, countdown/regatta timer, EL backlight - Water resistance: Marked 10 BAR / WR 100 — untested, gaskets not recently serviced - Year: ca. 1997 (case serial 7N0037) The watch is in very good condition. The case retains its factory brushed and polished contrast with crisp edges on the guards and bezel. The LCD is complete and clean, with all segments displaying correctly. The mineral crystal shows light surface marks visible under angled light. The canvas strap shows wear around the holes and its originality to the reference is not confirmed. All functions operate correctly: timekeeping, calendar, alarm, chronograph and countdown timer. Working D28B examples with an intact LCD and an unpolished case are the ones that hold value in this reference — most circulating examples show display fade or case refinishing.
