Lip Robust dress wristwatch from Besançon, France, circa late 1950s to early 1960s. Stainless steel 34mm case fitted with the in-house Lip caliber R23G manual-winding movement, Incabloc shock protection, 17 jewels.

Lip was the leading French watchmaker of the post-war period, and the R23 is one of its most respected manual calibers. The Robust line was Lip's everyday three-hand dress reference of that era — recognisable by its faceted lugs and silvered dial with applied Arabic numerals at 12, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10. This example presents in exceptional aesthetic condition, very close to new-old-stock.

  • Silvered dial original, virtually unmarked
  • Applied numerals and dart indices crisp and intact
  • Original hands with light cream patina on the luminous fill
  • Stainless steel case unpolished, faceted lugs sharp
  • Acrylic crystal clean, no chips or scratches
  • Signed caseback with Besançon crest, sharp engravings
  • Brown leather strap (aftermarket)
  • Movement winds and starts, but works inconsistently; a routine service is needed before regular wear

A rare opportunity to acquire a Lip R23 in this aesthetic condition. The watchmaking is straightforward — the R23 is a simple, well-documented caliber that any qualified watchmaker can service quickly and affordably.
